Coffee Brewing Basics  man making coffee

Brewing great coffee is easy if you follow a few simple steps.  Obviously, you want to start with the freshest coffee possible, like micro-roasted coffees from Coastal Peaks Roasters. Freshness is determined by when the coffee is roasted rather than the date the coffee beans are harvested.

Coffee Brewing Basics

1.  Start with clean brewing equipment, whether you use an automatic brewer, a French Press or a vintage stove-top percolator.

2.  Use the best water possible. Coffee is 99% water, and it’s imperative that you start with good water.  If you don’t like the taste of your tap water, use bottled drinking water or water from a reverse osmosis system. If using tap water, make sure it’s cold. Warm tap water tastes flat.

3.  Use the correct temperature to brew your coffee. The best temperature is between 200 and 205 degrees.  If you’re using an automatic brewer you have little control over the temperature, but the thermostat has most likely been set to brew with cold water.

4.  Use premium, gourmet Arabica coffee beans, preferably from Coastal Peaks Roasters! Use the correct grind and amount of coffee, following the recommendations of the coffee maker you are using.  girl with blue cup
